Promoting sustainability and accountability has become more and more important for the academic field. The purpose of the academic system is to lay the foundation for a so called Third Mission, whose purpose is the promotion of culture and knowledge through their sharing, implementation, technological spread and enhancement, and which is willing to contribute to society community, cultural and economic development.

Sapienza pursue this purpose through an international planning, which involves the university in its whole.  This planning includes the development of agreements both national and local, in collaboration with regional authorities and ministries,  agreements with factories to launch on the market research products through the support of technology, and the support of spinoffs and start-ups, and the opening of the university museums to the public, involving them in cultural and scientific activities.
